iPhone "Hide Alerts" in Messages (Texting App) Keeps Turning On and/or Notifications Keep Getting Silenced

I have been an iPhone user since the first iPhone came out, but took a 1.5 year hiatus to try out a Samsung. I am not back to iPhone, and am having an issue that I cannot seem to figure out. In my Messages (text messages), all of my communications keep switching to "Do Not Disturb" (crescent moon next to the contacts icon), and/or all of my contacts notifications get silenced (swiping right to see bell with slash through it). I have turned them all off only to find them on again a day or two later. I have restarted my phone as well. I have not reset my phone yet, but I am trying to avoid that. I have not found anyone who is having this same issue via online forums, so I am posting here hoping to find some help. Hopeful that it is an easy fix.

Thanks for reaching out for help KitaSmith,

We understand you're encountering an issue with contacts being set to Do Not Disturb unexpectedly, do we have that right?

Have you tried restarting your iPhone normally since encountering the behavior?

To clarify what you're seeing when you turn Do Not Disturb off, are contacts or conversation you expect to be notified for, showing the bell with the slash through it before or after you expect Do Not Disturb to be enabled?

We'll look forward to your response, and using what we learn to plan the best next steps.
