YouTube will not exit video or continue after paused with older Apple TV. Prime video works just fine.

I have reset my Apple TV but the YouTube video app is no longer correctly controllable with the Apple remote or bluetooth keyboard. Videos will play until paused. After that they will not continue or allow navigation to another YouTube video or exit to another AppleTV app. Initial selection of a YT video works fine, but as soon as a video is paused all is frozen. I think I have the second or third AppleTV model. The problem seems to have started after the latest AppleTV update I was required to do to view an Apple event. Is there a solution?

The only workaround I have found is to never pause a video but fast forward or rewind over the place you would’ve paused and then resume playback with the play button. This is the only time the play button will resume the video once a video has been started. It’s interesting that Amazon Prime video does not have this problem; it seems to be unique with YouTube videos. These are the only two apps I really use so I cannot confirm there are not problems of this type with other apps. For clarity I want to state that the problem I have is also present with my Bluetooth keyboard and is not unique to the Apple TV remote.

Can confirm I have the same problem with my Apple tv 3 (A1427). I believe it started since the update to tvOS 7.6 (8130).

Resetting and restarting the Apple tv does not help.

Once paused and frozen:

if I wait long enough the Apple tv returns to the home screen, terminating the YouTube app.
if I press any other keys while it is frozen, the Apple tv will reboot after a short while.
