Black screen with white padlock and login/password field on startup

I have a 2015 MacBook 13” that’s displaying a black screen with a white paddock and login field when I boot it up. The regular apple logo doesn’t appear on startup. It doesn’t accept the password for the admin account when I enter it into the field on the screen. I haven’t encountered this before, does anyone have any suggestions?
