Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Have deleted app, but some traces must be left?

I deleted an old version of Symantec AntiVirus, but I still get a message saying my antivirus is using an older software whenever I restart my MacBook. Have tried to search and delete anything related to "Norton" or "Symantec" in Finder, but it does not seem to help. The only thing left is a .kext-file that I can't seem to get rid of.

Any help? :)

Their uninstaller provided by the Maker, would fully remove all parts of this software.

This, prior any attempt at 'manual removal.' An exercise of the unnecessary, as Macs

do not get Virus. The cure is to not install the these 'self-defeating' circular logic items.

Q: how can I uninstall Norton (symantec) antivirus from my Mac.. | Apple Community (2016)

To get the correct Uninstaller from Symantec may well require a new re-download of the App.

You may be able to search, if known, the locations where their Installer places parts(?)

This may help look for -and remove bits- of Symanetec AV &/or Norton AV.

Also it may require re-installing(?) the AV software to get their Uninstaller!!

The following may work with all Norton products such as Symantec. Using these products

have been known to cause major issues, most remain hidden. Unless one uses 'Symantec

Antivirus Uninstaller' - or finds a workable 'norton program removal tool' a separate item.

With recent versions of EtreCheck, or 'Malwarebytes for Mac' (free, from their makers)

these may be useful to look for, isolate, and remove oddities. Most veteran mac-users

know and/or have these 2 useful tools. ~ Mine get run 2x or 3, each year; only to look.

(Or erase/reinstall your MacOS from scratch? And try not to re-import Symantec w/ Time Machine?)😜

I'd done several searches to try & find some workable solution to this issue; bits and pieces as

found, were posted in this thread. Not all match; one remains throughout. Use their Uninstaller.

Good luck & happy trails!🌞🎣
