Robotic sound when AirPods connected to mac

When my AirPods are connected to my mac, the mic sounds robotic when I am on FaceTime with someone. On my phone and other devices my AirPod mic and sounds quality is fine, however, when connected to my mac it is super robotic... Is this a problem with my mac? How can I fix it?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Hey 44e44,

It sounds like you're having an issue with mic audio on your Mac. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

First, we'd recommend testing with the built in mic or another microphone on your Mac to see if the same issue occurs.

If the issue seems to be limited to your AirPods, we'd recommend trying the steps here as the problem may be Bluetooth related: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

If the issue occurs with other mics let us know and we can look into that further.

Thanks!
