Could not find your preferred disc burner. OK to use HL-DT-ST DVDRW GX50N (USB) instead?

I used the Apple Superdrive yesterday without problems. This morning the Music app would not open and I had to reboot the Mac. It now opens but I get this error when I try to burn a playlist.

The default burner is Apple SuperDrive - and that worked fine yesterday. Today it "can't be found".

Music version is 1.0.6.10

Mac OS is Catalina 10.15.7

It seemed to work ok with the other burner - but what happened to the Apple Superdrive burner?

Hey there ByronBound,

Sounds like you were having an issue with the Apple Superdrive, but were able to still burn with a 3rd party DVD burner.

There isn't anything wrong with using a 3rd party DVD burner with our computers or iTunes. To troubleshoot the Apple Superdrive, have you tried a different USB port or even a different USB cable to see if that changes anything? Did restarting the computer make a difference?

Hi, I rebooted the Mac but it made no difference. Also, it was working fine with the superdrive burner the previous day. I am wondering whether the Mac did an auto update to Music overnight and that caused the problem - I had to reboot the Mac to get Music to actually load.

The USB cable is not removable from the superdrive. But I did move the USB drive from the Mac Pro to the monitor and now I get both choices.

When I move it back to the Mac Pro it now gives me both choices.

Another issue: There is no reference to the disk in file manager or on the desktop. To eject the blank disk from the superdrive I had to use File Utility.

Perhaps the next update will fix all these issues...
