Photos 5.0 (161.0.120) crashing repeatly

I have about 22k pictures and 1k videos in a 270GB Photos 5.0 library. Over the years, some of the photos were migrated from iPhotos and some from Aperture. Until now I have only occasionally used Photos, but now that I spend much more time geo and face tagging, I realize how often the application crashes.

Luckily, Photos has no problems starting up and accessing the database, but it often crashes after 10-15 minutes of my operating the database (moving folders, tagging, etc.). I successfully run the database repair tool after each crash. There is no distinct pattern leading to the crashes.

Is there a kind soul who could throw me a rope?

Thank you.

There is no distinct pattern leading to the crashes.

This suggests, that it might be a background process that is causing the crashes. Or a memory leak. Both could be caused by legacy media in library.

Are you working with large RAW files? Such files could be causing a memory leak.

Are videos on your library? While you have been working with Aperture and iPhoto you may have imported videos, audio files, or image files in a format, that Photos 5 on Catalina cannot process. These older legacy files may now be causing problems. See: How to Weed out Legacy Media in Photos for Mac - Apple Community

If there are no suspicious items in your library, try the general trouble shooting suggested by Tony.
