Bought and redeemed OS X Lion - can't find it in App store or downloads

We are trying to restore our iMac to original settings and therefore bought OS X Lion on the app store (using another Mac, a laptop - from where we want to transfer it to a flash drive to install on the old iMac).

We received a code for a PDF - unlocked the PDF and received the redeem code. In the App store, we redeemed the code, and got the message from the app store, that the product would now download.

But nothing is happening, it's nowhere on the laptop.

Can anyone help?

OK. I have done some research, and even tried Apple support but they weren't helpful and I got passed around between the various support parts...

Anyway I found a post on Reddit which said "A Senior Supervisor explained that there is no way to download OS X Lion from the App Store. It was intended as an update package for systems running Snow Leopard. This was not made clear at all on the purchase page."

Also note that you cannot get a refund as you have redeemed the code for download, even though it cannot download!

Hopefully this will help someone in the future - don't buy Lion from the app store.

[I have now solved my problems and since I have paid for a licence that I couldn't use directly, my conscience is clear]

it's best if you start up the iMac you want to install lion on into recovery mode. (i recommend using a wired ethernet connection) when you see the utilities window, choose "re-install lion" a popup will appear asking for your apple id info. use the apple id you used to purchase lion. the install should then begin. if it asks for the redemption code, enter the code. if you've accidentally erased the recovery partition, look here.

since you've apparently already downloaded it, look for the lion installer in your applications folder. then you can create a bootable installer for macOS. however i would try the above steps first.

I also have this problem - I have an old MacBook Pro that I've put a new hard drive in and it has no recovery partition. I looked online and saw a number of guides that said you can make a bootable USB installer from the install app. So I bought it from apple and, as the OP, I got a code which I redeemed. It said download started but... nothing is downloading! Unless it takes more than 5 days... All the online guides tell me this is in the applications folder but I've looked in /applications and my accounts applications folder and there is nothing.

I can't go into recovery mode to install as there's no recovery partition. I tried also to download and use the OS X Recovery Disk Assistant but my MacBook won't run this as it "can't verify the developer".

Given that I have paid for the software isn't there a link to where the installer is that I can download?

Any other help would be gratefully received!
