Realised after setting my alarm that the icon usually at top right corner near battery icon had vanished.
after reading various things to do in settings or reading that the icon had been removed iOS 14,however I did read that if you turn your iPhone off then on again it should appear again..tahdarrrr the little alarm clock icon is back where it belongs,thought I’d share this as it worked for me..⏰

The iPhone X and above with the "notch" cannot display the alarm icon on the home screen, it only appears in Control Center as you have found. Just like it does not display the battery percentage, just the battery icon. One of the disadvantages to the newer phone with the notch.
That’s in your mail app isn’t it? I want to see it on your Home Screen. However, that is interesting because I still can’t even see it in the mail app. I only see it in the control center on my iPhone XR running iOS 14.1.
That is very interesting. I wonder if it has to do with the model of the iPhone. My Xr doesn’t have space going all the way across the top like your iPhone 6 has because the space at the top is where the speaker and microphone are.

Could you post a screen shot of that? I would love to see proof of that. I just tried it and I don’t see the alarm icon at all on the Home Screen. I DO see it in the control center, but not on the Home Screen.
