My Media Library in iMovie has quit updating

My media library in iMovie used to show all of my videos and I could scrub through them. However, now it does not. I have tried updating the app and restarting my computer. Help is much appreciated!

The settings you want are as shown by the red circles in this screen shot:

With the Albums setting you won't get the "All" setting. Still, if you open the albums that are displayed, you should find your videos in them, and in the album that is titled "Videos". When you click on an album icon it will open to display all of the media in them and you will see the "All" selection setting. What possibly is happening is that you are opening albums that do not contain any video clips in the Photos app, but only photos.

Thank you for your continued help. I don't have the option to select "Years." The "Videos" folder only has seven videos in it...they're the videos I have edited in iMovie in the past. But as far as the videos that should be in my icloud library...nothing. They used to populate here automatically and were so easy to find that I don't even remember what it looked like. But something has changed...

Hi, MissChelseaStitt,

Perhaps you could provide more details.

The only way that your iMovie library "updates" is if you import media into the iMovie library. The imported media will display in the Media Browser when you click on the library's name in the media sidebar. By "media library" do you mean the media browser screen for the iMovie library? Are you saying that videos imported into the iMovie library have quit displaying in the media browser screen?

Media that you import from time to time into your Photos app library's system library will display in iMovie when you click on the Photos item in the iMovie sidebar. Are you saying that videos currently placed in your Photos app library have quit displaying? If so, maybe you have "Photos" selected in the selection menu in the upper right of the browser screen, instead of "Videos" or "All".

It might be helpful if you could post a screen shot of what you are seeing.

Are you running Catalina with Photos 5? If so, the iMovie Photos display options are different than previous versions. What happens when you click on All Photos?

Also, iMovie will not recognize videos and photos that are stored in the cloud. Plus, if you were syncing with iCould, and your iCould library is empty, that would have deleted your videos unless you downloaded all the vdeos to your physical Photos library. When you open the Photos app do you see your videos in there? Try downloading them from the cloud.
