USING PHONE IN TURKEY

I have been in the USA since August 2020 and I am an international student.for summer and winter breaks, I will return to my country which is turkety. I am conisdering to get iphone 12 pro from us but I will return to my own country but I have to use my phone in turkey with my turkish operator provider. I conisder to stay in turkey for winter break one month, and for summer break I will stay for at least 3 month. I'll be back to America after these holidays In addition, when I talked to the operator provider, they said that if I get the phone from Verizon, they will lock my phone for other sim cards for 60 days and I think that is why I should choose sim free. I also don't want to pay an additional fee to open a phone in turkey.
