Adding extra line for child to use Apple Watch s6 or se as standalone without phone

I want to buy my kid a Apple Watch series 6 of SE cellular versions, and I don’t want to buy my Kid a separate iPhone, do I have to add a new line for my kid to use their watch as a stand alone device, or I can just use the wearable cellular plan from t-mobile?
