Documents file and contents disappeared fro imac

Has anyone had this happen and how did you fix this?

cannot find where my files went on imac 27' I have an extensive filing system for my documents. I find that I must have misfiled many of my files into wrong folders under wrong headings. When I use the search feature under "Finder" app, files are listed but it does not show WHERE they have been put. Under which category or folder? Is there a way to track them back to where they are now? Or do I have to move them all out onto the desktop and start over?

new folder not empty when created when I open new folder it creates a folder on desktop with the folder as a subfolder, before when I created a new folder on desktop all the desktop was in the folder, I cleared desktop, restarted computer and put 1 item on desktop, a new folder is chosen on menu not "new folder with selection". every new folder created has whatever is on desktop. tried all finder preferences and no luck. please assist as can't organise anything and duplicates every desktop file makes issues. Thanks in advance

File "Can't be Found" prompts after Ventura 13.1 Since updating to Ventura 13.1, at random times, when I double-click on a file to open it, I get a prompt that the file can't be found. If I click OK then double-click the file again, it opens as it should. It happens randomly to files of all types. I have never created aliases to any of these files and they are stored locally on a desktop folder. This has never happened before 13.1. Any ideas? iMac 2020 3.6 GHz 10-Core Intel Core i9 AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16 Gb

Did you enable iCloud? If so look in your iCloud drive.
