Hey there! I’ve seen this after the update as well, I think HP drivers are out of date and need to be updated to work. Here’s what worked:

First, if updating the software manually doesn’t work:

Open Finder, on the top menu hit Go > Computer > Macintosh HD (Usually) > Library > Printers.

Save (If you need to, and Delete the HP folder from there, (You’ll notice when clicking “Show in Finder” when you get the errors, these are where the files are, in this case old, outdated drivers and files).

Once deleted, open System Preferences > Printers and Scanners.

Right click (or Control click) select “Reset Printing System”, (This will delete any existing Printers and Scanners).

Once done:

If USB Printer, dis connect/re connect, you may see the option to “Install” the new HP software.

If a wireless “AirPrinter”, just hit the “+” sign to re-add the printer and select “Add”.

Do a test print to make sure it’s working again!

This is Gatekeeper, Mac’s security doing its job, most likely if you’re getting that error message, it’s a good thing to remove the older software.

Hope it all goes well!

I'm seeing all of the same problems described above and throughout this thread, on several generations of Mac hardware, on both OS 10.14.6 and 10.15.7. HP Print drivers are broken all around. I'm seeing similar complaints on the HP support forum.

My particular printer, a Color LaserJet CP1518ni is connected by Ethernet. I can still see the web page served by the computer, and I can use that to print a test page (which is generated internally in the printer), but I cannot print a test page from the print queue app--it spools and nothing happens.

I have exactly the same problem on a MacBook Pro 2018 on a Catalina 10.15.7. The only thing I have installed lately, before the last time I printed, is the latest Adobe Creative Cloud version 5.3.1470 with the latest Adobe's software. I am not sure though that this is the cause of the problem. I have not made other changes for weeks. Even reinstalling the printers does not solve the problem. Both of the M553 printers I am using are on a network. This problem came out of the blue.

I was having similar issues with HP LaserJet 2055dn just stopped printing. I could use the web interface to print a printer config page. I found that the hpPostProcessing was crashing

Process: hpPostProcessing [2722]

Path: /Library/Printers/hp/filter/hpPostProcessing.bundle/Contents/MacOS/hpPostProcessing

Identifier: hpPostProcessing

Code Type: X86-64 (Native)

Parent Process: cupsd [2572]

I deleted the printer then added it using the IP Address and LPD plus Generic Postscript and eureka! I can print again. What a weird random thing to happen. I am glad I found this post as I was already thinking I needed to buy a new printer.
