SanDisk JPEG icons instead of thumbnail images

I've purchased a SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD and loaded photos on it. Under view, I clicked on icon. That only shows the file name under a JPEG icon, no thumbnail image. In addition to not seeing images, I cannot open image files from the SanDisk device using Lighroom6 or Photoshop Elements 2020. I asked SanDisk about both of these issues, its help staff replied my device was a standard external hard drive and that the problem was not with it but with my Apple iMac computer (updated to Catalina). Does anyone have any advice for me on thumbnails and PSE/LR use with the SanDisk SSD? Thank you!

Hey brenden dv,

Thank you for this response. But the problem turned out to be optional security software (SecurityAccess) that came with the SanDisk SSD, which I installed. SanDisk provided no warning that this software in effect crippled the SSD as a fully functioning external hard drive. I've deleted the SecurityAccess software and the SSD device is now a fully functioning store and play device. I'm now looking for optional software that will password protect my SSD device without the problems that came with SecurityAccess. Any recommendations? Thank you so much.
