Does the iPhone 12 automatically go to 4g?

If I buy the 12 but if I’m in an area that doesn’t have 5g - does it automatically go to 4g or do I just loose all service.

sounds like a stupid question but my cousin has an android 5g and looses all service when there isn’t 5g. The phone does not then connect to 4g....or anything.

The iPhone 12 will connect to 5G LTE when it is available. If not then it will move on to 4G LTE and even to 3G if necessary. Yes it is all automatic.

Just to add, you can also turn 5G off.
