flash player.dmg file downloaded automatically

I notice a typo when entering a url, but I couldn't stop it from going to the misspelled site. Instantly it downloaded flash player. I went to downloads, right clicked/control clicked to delete the file and instead it opened. Now what? Do I have malware and a virus?

Just delete Flash Player disk image. The browser plugin can't be installed in Catalina.

I think I may have downloaded malware I keep getting a pop up saying I need to update Flash Player on my iMac with El Capitan. There were three choices on the official looking page which were OK, Install, and Later. I think I may have chosen OK because Later didn't get rid of it and it downloaded. What should I do? I'm afraid it's malware. Thank you for your help!
