microphone does not work on iphone 12 pro
I recently bought the iphone 12 pro. When I use facetime or facebook messenger video chat, the audio becomes choppy for the other end. Is it a hardware problem or software?

Bought a new 12 pro max for my wife about a week ago. Didn't think about testing it out of the box first before transferring her data over from her old 7 plus. So don't know what IOS version the 12 came with and if the mic was working then or not. We had to update to latest version (14.4) in order to transfer wife's data over and so we did. Transfer went well and everything appeared to be working fine. A few days later wife tried to make a Facebook messenger call with me and I couldn't hear her at all. We then tested FaceTime and tried making phone calls...other couldn't hear a thing...nada. Tested the Voice Memo app and when playing back a recording all we could hear was loud static. To Google we went looking for a solution or to see if others were experiencing similar microphone issues. Did all the troubleshooting and even did a factory reset as a new user and issue still there. Download Phone Diagnostics on the App Store (apple.com) as suggested from someone on the other thread, ran it, and the bottom mic FAILED!!! Using a Bluetooth headset works but such an inconvenience. Took the 12 to Apple store and returned that sucker before the 14 days was up. So disappointed to have paid over $1000+ for a phone and the mic doesn't even work! I especially feel sad for my wife as she was really looking forward to the new 12 pro max, and we were going to use it to shoot photos at our upcoming baby shower :( Holding out on getting another 12 until there's an official fix or Apple acknowledges it. Might even have to wait for the 13 or switch over to Android.
GrantAustralia and others. I am having the same issues as well and have been working with Apple for 2 months (and hours and hours worth of my time) on possible "fixes." The latest reply was....It is likely a feedback loop issue that is expected behavior...seriously!!!!! And that I just need to use my earphones to make calls and/or wait for another update. amazing.
Could you by chance provide me a copy of the letter that Apple gave you acknowledging the issue? I would LOVE to exchange for an iPhone 11. Thanks so much!
I had the same problem on 11 Pro, it works totally fine on AirPods but not otherwise. Apple replaced it, tried all of above including replacing SIM card blaming on AT&T. I bought a new phone 12 Pro yesterday and I am typing for the same problem from 12 Pro now. Super frustrating , wasted money on two phone.
This is the latest picture I’ve been getting on my iPhone 12 Pro by just swiping up on apps and my speaker is so messed up it sounds like I’ve bought a fake iPhone from China that’s how bad the quality is when I making phones calls and the worse thing about it I’m in warranty and iPhone will not admit fault will not replace my phone I keep sending it off for repair going to apple store my self they keep doing diagnostics on it and saying the diagnostics is saying it’s all fine and keep giving me back the defective phone that I paid 1200 pounds for this ridiculous customer support from apple I’m so unhappy and stressed out i really didn’t know apple customer support had gone down the drain otherwise I would off gone with another company there making me out to be a liar and making me doubt my self literally making me out to be crazy I really don’t know what to do next
Update 2: Still no issues with the microphone :). However, we now have the (known) issue with the (non-apple) wireless charger which stops charging the phone. Reboot as a work-around, but still it’s a really anoying bug.
It wont, its a hardware issue. The phone is trash. All these updates are pointless. My iPhone 10 was perfect, no issues. I could sit it down on the mic and still hear and talk perfectly. No choppiness ever.
the casing trick is silly. Its not a case issue lol. Everyone i know who has this phone has an issue with or without case.
I am in full agreement. I have tried EVERY "fix" that every Verizon tech and Apple rep has suggested. Supposedly the Apple engineers have been diligently working on a resolution for MY problem, but can't seem to figure out why I might be having issues....When I sent them the links to all of the complaints. Silence. I was told they "could not figure out MY problem and that to deal with it the best I could and wait for an update. wow....
Thank you for sharing. I have a iPhone 12 Pro Max and have the same issues. Video recording work with voices, phone calls do not! Mic not working! WeChat call do not work either! Frustrating! Can’t make calls.
Same I never did a hard reset. I tried the voice memo and it seemed okay. But audio just becomes choppy on FaceTime and anything video calls related

I tested calling from my Iphone 7+ video calls no issue whatsoever
Yup, same with me. my old iphoneX has no problem under the same network. It is just the iphone 12 pro

Me try head phones of the person on the other end? I don’t have problem hearing it’s the other person
