About all you may do is try reset of NVRAM -or- PRAM and also SMC reset.

Main issue/symptoms could be hardware related, though. ~ Tried these?

• Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

"..If you experience issues with sleep, wake, power, charging your Mac

notebook battery, or other power-related symptoms, you might need

to reset the SMC (System Management Controller).."

Try each of those resets at least 2 or 3x; then consider scheduling a Service.

Not sure what result if any, may come from hardware tests, run inside Mac.

If your Mac is from 2013 or later, use 'Apple Diagnostics', which is built in.

• Diagnose problems with your Mac - Apple Support

• How to use 'Apple Diagnostics' on your Mac - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731

• Apple Repair and Repair Status Check - Official Apple Support

Hard to say what effect 'resets' may have on graphic issues; or underlying cause.

Good luck & happy computing!🌞🌙

Can someone else help me with this too? The same randomly started happening to my macbook 12 inch 2016. Ran diagnostics test, computer seems fine hardware wise. Rebooted, reset the NVRAM and PRAM, screen still glitching/flickering. Spoke to apple, heard it might be because of the recent MacOS catalina update. Apparently other people have called in about the same problem too.

When screen movement is involved with flicker, and on-off issues?

There are parts in the screen and in upper case that directly affect

the screen off and on. A repair would be indicated for symptoms.

Inverter? Or maybe equivalent of 'reed switch' may need replaced.

While inside, there may be other parts (battery?) that could be

cost effective to address while bulk of MacBook 12-in. is open.

Good luck!🐌🌻🐢
