iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

Hello, I just bought an iPhone 12 today and I seem to be having the same issues. I began using the phone right away after it was set up, to download apps and make it more personalized as we all do, but I did experience it heating up right away, and extremely hot as well. This got me worried which led me to researching and it brought me here. Please let me know if you find a solution! That was too much money to spend on something that overheats in just a few minutes.

I’ve read somewhere on google that the magnets are causing over heating problems, it was on a site called Forbes it’s worth looking at but whether it’s true or not I’ve no idea but I was waiting for the iPhone 12 Pro Max to become available and since reading the over heating issue I’m holding back to see how this all pans out.

i had overheating today (monday) after getting phone on 23rd.

I had it fully charged.

Done a WhatsApp call that person had not answered

Been using messages, telegram and Skype

Notification sounds started to become distorted with a buzz to them

and I was getting a lot of typing keyclick sounds that did not belong to correct app.

I thought I would just play a music track to see if that was distorted or not.

NO sound came out of speakers, No devices connected (other than watch)

Tried several different tracks with same result of no sound. Even at max volume.

At this point I noticed rear top of phone getting very hot.

I restarted iPhone and afterwards it was ok but something is amiss

Iphone 12 pro is getting super hot even running normally.

Never experience this issue with previous apple phones.

After getting it, I thought its being hot because its creating backup and stuff, but now i have come to a conclusion that there is a major defect in the phone, hence it is heating up quite rapidly.

Furthermore, the battery life is terrible.

Disappointed.

Hi,

Brand new iPhone 12 Pro delivered on Friday October 23 (release day). I'm still waiting for the case I ordered so I didn't set up the phone until last night. The new case doesn't come until tomorrow, so I'm still not really using the phone (No Sim Card in it). I did spend a little time checking out phone and finishing the setup today and it was physically hot to the touch on the back of the phone. I noticed the phone got hot very quickly when using the camera app. The other thing I noticed is the smell: Literally smelt like epoxy or glue when it was warm.

I'm sure Apple is aware and will make it right.

I wonder if it’ll turn out the X55 modem is the problem for over heating phones, I have read somewhere that it isn’t as battery friendly as the X60 modem or as power efficient and presumably the X60 will go into the iPhone 13’s so I wonder if Apple will have to dial back the speed of the X55 to overcome the heat build up problems, I’m sure I recall Samsung having a similar problem with one of its modems a few years back with over heating

I've had my iPhone 12 Pro a bit less than 1 day. I noticed no heating or battery issues until an hour ago when I paired the phone to my vehicle via Bluetooth. While driving about 25 minutes the phone became very hot and the battery, which had started the trip at 100%, lost 20% of its charge.

I hope a fix for this is forthcoming soon. The phone is at IOS 14.1.

This has been happening to me as well after setting it up. Glitching in the screen it’s like a blue border flashing. Then the phone is extremely hot after a few minutes of use. I never experienced this before. I assume another update is to be launched to correct whatever issue is causing this but IOS 14 was just launched. It’s so annoying because the phone is really hot to the touch. I wonder if it’s the processor.
