iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

To anyone saying they don’t “overheat” the 12 pro max most certainly does. I left mine charging overnight under my pillow (which I’ve done with all my devices in the past ) using the new usb C cable and 6 ft apple charge cable , when I woke up , my hand literally almost got burned the phone was so hot , and the emergency notification stating my phone was too hot to charge was on as well , I have no idea why I’m having this issue or what causes it but there’s definitely some design flaw going on here.

I have been concerned with my iPhone12pro max. With all apps turned off, minimal usage for example texting or browsing google, at times the back of my phone has been notably heating up. It will only cool down if I lock the phone and not use it for a while. ( I actually put my cold drink against the back of the phone because i was concerned.)

I have been presuming perhaps because it is a model with higher functions it uses more energy. Though, this doesn't make sense as it occurs when msging whilst all apps have been closed.

It is very concerning that other users are having the same issue.

very expensive phone-wish this issue can be resolved.

We recently took my wife’s iPhone 12 Pro Max into the apple store after having overheat issues from the day we purchased it 60 days ago. They informed us they were going to gut it, whatever that means so we backed everything up for a restore. Since we have had the phone “supposedly fixed” by apple my wife’s phone did overheat again. The only difference I see now is the phone screen dims a lot right before. I hope that apple can truly fix the iPhone 12 Pro Max issues for their customers since most of us paid almost $1500 for the phone or more.

I was on a Zoom call with dog’s vet while I sitting in the car. Was Using 5G and had charger on using backup battery. Phone heated up, cut my call. And this happened before. I think problem is with my iPhone 12 Pro. At home and had FaceTime call using my wifi, no charger on, and talked for about 35 minutes. On another day, had watched streaming for about an hour at home on my wifi and no charger. Phone 12 Pro did not overheat during the last 2 instances. Planning to take phone back.

Hi friend,

I too having the issue-

Visited apple store 5 times-

On third visit they replaced the device , but the overheating issue still persists-

I also face major issue with Mobile data usage/ ON mode compared to wifi.

According to apple genius, its normal for this device to heat up- and now they are telling its up-to the people and how we use the device.

They simply wash their hands and not helping to resolve the issue-

My last expectation was on the ios 14.5 release with modem update, but that too proved futile.

My iphone 12 pro get immensely heated that its really uncomfortable to hold the device during that time.

During that time when the external body of my iPhone temperature is above 44 degree Fahrenheit.

No way to fix it-

Those who tool the 12 pro series was betrayed cleverly by apple ! !

I even emailed and informed Mr Tim cook.

Sadly no favorable response.

Never ever expect from APPLE

☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

I have the blue iPhone 12! My phone almost everyday out of nowhere will become very hot. It’s almost uncomfortable to hold. I have also experienced battery life that is amazing some days and terrible on others. 5G is partly to blame as a lot of areas still don’t cover it so it makes your phone work harder to get the signal. Essentially depleting your battery life. I do hope that soon the phone will cool down!

Bought iPhone 12 pro max at the end of March, had overheating issues and screen dimming issues since out of the box. Already have been sent an attempted replacement, but it has the same issues so I am sending the replacement back. Frustrating, I upgraded from an 8 plus and I actually miss it. The lack of a home button while in the middle of the call and trying to get my screen to light up is my biggest pet peeve.

horrible hardware issues, most tech support is aware.

OK folks, here the deal..

Coming from an iPhone 8, using an iPhone 12 Pro. The screen is generally very bright, equal or better tha the 8. However as many have stated under certain circumnstances the screen can suddenly limit the maximum brightness allowed.

For me it happens so far ONLY when Im driving with the phone on the dash mount and the sun hitting the back of the phone. Inside the car it is 70F nice and cool, but it seems the sun hitting it directly is making it heat more than it can handle. At which point I can literally SEE IT step down in brightness suddenly. First it dropped noticeable amount. Then It dropped again another amount. Its not gradual, it actually goes in steps.

You can easily tell its limiting the brightness because if you set the brightness slider at maximum, and then try moving it up and down a little (within the top 20% range) the brigthness does not change at all. Its like the slider allows you to go to 100% but in reality anything over the 80% marker is still limited to 80% brightness.

I did some testing at ome, and same conditions as in car (charging phone, Waze running, Music playing) and after 45 mins it was still full brighntess.

It seem evident based on my rather limited testing that the sun hitting the phone sends it over the edge. This really s*cks because when I need the MOST brigthness is EXACTLY when Im driving and the Sun is out.

Apple needs to fix this problem because I am about to return this for a different model altogether. Does the Mini suffer from this too? Im really P*ssed.

Yes I have been experiencing this same thing my phone gets really hot when I am on Facebook then when I plug my phone in while it’s charging it stays hot and don’t move past 80% I have to turn my phone off and back on and sometimes that don’t even work to get my phone to go past 80% my phone flickers in the background as well if I’m on FaceTime it starts to flicker but it only says it at curtain parts of the day.

I am having the same problems... Very frustrating! I took my iPhone 12 Max Pro to an apple store to see what the problem was and was told that there was no hardware issues so it must be software. My Phone was so hot I couldn't hold on to it as well as battery drain in 8 hrs. without a lot of use. I cant belie its software because there's not a lot of intense use, just phone calls and texting.

I returned the phone for the exact same one which is having the same issues.. Ugh!! It's pretty ridiculous to be told that there's nothing wrong with the phone by tech support when the battery is drained in a short amount of time without intensive use and it gets abnormally hot. I would love to hear from others if this is their experience and what to do about it?

Thanks,
