iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

Naive question: how do you recognise the LiDar is working? Once I got upgraded to 14.2 and lost Face ID and had overheating and battery drain I recognised 2 cross hairs when taking photos to align in order to be perfectly in plane with teh subject. Now with upgrade to 14.3 this is gone. I am back to the usual square with the sun on the side.....

yes my iPhone 12 is overheating too, since day one I bought and I belive the reason behind this is that: they using interior parts of old iPhones returned from other customers to make the newest iPhones and I’m very disappointed because my brand new phone having that issue even very often it glitches and freezing screen

That's positively not the case. What proof might you have to make such a baseless claim?

First of all That’s so rude of you to jumb on conclusion like that like you are the owner of the apple store, then what’s your proof as you opposing??? So my proof is that you can return your old iPhone and get discount on your new one, the reason they take the old ones is because they use some parts of them to make new ones, one of them might be the battery

You come here claiming iPhone 12 is manufactured with used parts and you want to know what my credentials are? Give me a break. Apple is NOT manufacturing iPhones from used parts. And that's not why your phone may be getting warm. But I give you credit for offering a most implausible, but amusing reason.

Apple doesn't use parts of traded phones to make new phones, period. Traded phones get refurbished and used as service replacements or Out of Warranty replacements or even sold in the Refurbished Store, but NEVER as a new device. NEVER EVER.

Hi, I’ve not had overheating until today. With my iPhone 12.... Whilst video calling on what’s app on Christmas the phone got so hot... a cause for concern. I tried switching to 4/5G instead of WiFi and also checking apps were all off. Using battery saving mode. Hung up and tried again, it seemed to cool down again, but it’s still a concern to me having spent so much.

is this normal? I’ve jumped from a 7 to a 12 and never knew heated phones. To me this screams out flaws. Especially for this brand and the price attached

My I-phone 12 pro is 2 weeks old. today it became to hot to touch and used 40% of the battery in 5 minutes with the phone on standby in my pocket.

There was no open Apps running and it only has very light use, No games or music on it.

I turned it off and left it for half an hour to cool down and I am now waiting for it to charge up again.

What is wrong with it please ???

Thanks Mark

There are too many of us with the same issue for Apple to blame it on use / number of apps on in the background / battery charging etc. This is a design flaw / hardware issue! Apple MUST call all these phones back and replace them - otherwise they will end up catching fire on a flight like we've seen in the past. Also - its unacceptable that after a month of use, my phone (and many others here) has less life battery than my old Iphone 8 after 3 years of use. This is unaceptable for such an expensive and supposedly good quality product. Apple please REPLACE these phones.

Yes, I totally regret selling my 11 pro as it had no issues at all. And the battery was awesome too..

with this new 12 pro, the heating over very light usage and then the extreme battery drainage makes me hate Apple so much that I can’t explain. Didn’t expect a company like Apple launching such a faulty device in this era...

It’s just business to them...that’s what it seems

Thanks, I know. But still, not everyone already has an old lightning charger at hand when they purchase the new iPhone 12 Pro. Also, when you buy online theres no information about the device package not containing a charger (it only has the USB-C /Lightning cable). The company that sold me the device were actually shocked when I called to complain about the lack if charger. At first they didn’t believe me and had to open a package to check it! The salesperson just exclaimed “Oh goodness! And I’ve sold hundreds of these already without knowing this!” You can only read this in small print on the packet when you have bought it and received the delivery and are about to open it. Or just notice it missing once you’ve opened the box.

I do have an old USB/Lightning charger, but I need my old charger for my other phone (which needs to be plugged in almost all the time, as the battery just goes from 100 % to 10 % in seconds if not plugged in. And it is a replaced Apple battery, so it should work fine - but it’s the model (6S) that can’t deal with the cold weather etc.

The main problem in the brand new 12 Pro is the overheating and the screen being dimmed due to that. I have no use for a defective device which is dimmed half or most of the time and too hot to touch. I can’t eg. work with images or have video meetings if I can’t see the screen properly. It also really hurts to hold the burning hot device for more than a few seconds.

I have checked all the settings and battery info etc. but I can’t find anything that would explain these problems.

Apple Support will call me later today, hope they can advice. But I am seriously considering returning this device as a defective one, unless it works like a charm after that phone call.

This is just very disappointing. I was really looking forward to using this device. And yes, the camera us amazing (but I can’t see the photos properly when the screen dims due to overheating...).
