iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

Even after turning off the background app refresh for Waze, it was still running in the background. I deleted the app and my phone is running fine now. Check to see if there is an app using up battery life. This will also make the phone run hot as it is constantly on.

Worse than that, if Waze is on in the background it will constantly be asking Location Services for its location, increasing battery draw even more (and generating more heat.)

Yes, I have been talking to Apple Support about my Iphone 12 Pro for the same thing. It gets really warm when it's charging, when I talk on it or browse. It does not hold a charge for very long either. I was told to have the battery checked but I really don't want to have problems with a new phone when you just purchased it. I have had it less than a week. I can't imagine what's going to happen as it gets older. I close all pages when I'm done and it still loses it charge. I'm frustrated already. Sigh!!

I’ve been having the same issue! I even get the temperature warning as if I’m on a hot beach and it says I need to wait for my phone to cool down before using. My battery has never charged so slowly or drained so quickly. I’m also experiencing storage full alerts when I wasn’t even close to filling my storage on my 11 so not sure if the photo files are just larger on the 12 or what. Definitely missing my 11 at this point.

I have experienced the same problem. I dont know if it is because the software is not perfect yet or if its a hardware problem. The main issue I have with the phones temperature rising is that the phones performance then lags extremely hard. I understand it is trying to slow down the internal processors from working too hard but like come on... this is a $1000+ phone and you would think it would be designed better for issues like this. I hope an iOS update comes out soon to address this matter. Or Apple needs to speak up and offer suggestions for us owners. BTW...This is an issue on or off the charger, not just when charging for anyone commenting. Any one have any other tips they came across?

I do have the same issue on my Iphone 12, but I use only LTE, because in the place where I live the 5G is unreachable.

My phone is getting a little bit warm on the left side of the screen(on the right side of the camera) and it drains fast enough (round 15-20% per 8 hours of sleep) while doing nothing, just idling. I got only wifi ON and mobile data, bluetooth Off, background refresh off, I use dark theme.

I didn't restored my phone from any backup and set it as a new iphone, so that is not the problem of an icloud syncing for sure.

I have already reset network setting, did the HARD RESET, that doesn't really helped me.

I now got 15% of my battery and 7 hours of screen time, but I'm pretty sure I could get much better results if I didn't lose 13% that night....

The only thing in a pocket I can do is to factory reset the phone, but I'm sure it is not going to help me, because my iphone was set up as new, with no backups etc... And nothing could went wrong.

Yup, received 12pro yesterday. Turned off 5G, but even without it on, phone is hot to the touch when just playing music in headphones with display off. Battery drains faster than any phone in recent history. I am very disappointed. If you use the lidar, you get about 15 minutes per charge. I was thinking it was a defective phone, but I see by other comments that it to be a feature.

Well that means it’s not an individual phone problem... :/

ok I looked up the inside of the phone online, looks like the hottest spot in my case is right at the A14 chip... it’s the main chip overheating

anyone knows if the 5G modem is in A14 or it’s another chip outside?

did you feel it the hottest right on the left a bit upper left? That’s the part that was really hot for me

So, I’ve had the 12 for about 5 days now. Battery life way better than expected unless doing multiple internet speed tests to determine if the discount carrier you bought from was lying about their internet speeds, ugh. My 12 heats up when charging, this is a new experience for me because I have always chosen Samsung and they rarely heat up at all. This year, I decided to give Apple a try because the 12 was so compelling. I hope I didn’t make a mistake, Android phones are awesome and will probably just use an old phone for that functionality. On the bright side, Apple software has some surprisingly cool features once you dive in

Same issue here.

Got the 12 pro today, set it up to transfer all data form my 10X, 15 minutes later playing with the Camera it is still really hot, to the point I had to put it down off my hand, went to check my 10X and it is cool as a pickle, definitely really bad start.

Wont be surprised if we get a recall at some point it this persists, overheating is not something to play with.
