iPhone 12 Pro Overheating

Haven’t seen much on this yet and was curious if anyone out there with either an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is experiencing any overheating issues. I had major overheating problems while setting up the iPhone which isn’t too out of the norm. However the overheating issues have seemed to persist since getting the phone set up. The backup is fully restored so there shouldn’t be much background activity occurring. I’m also experiencing abysmal battery life as well, along side the drastic overheating. I do tend to favor 5G On over 5G Auto as I live in an area with a pretty expansive sub6 5G network. But either way the phone is still prone to overheat under minimal load. I also have been experiencing an occasional flicker on the screen which is something I haven’t seen on any apple oled panels before. Like I said I haven’t seen many forums or posts anywhere about this issue so thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone is experiencing anything similar!

But only using one app for less than 15 minutes (e.g. reading the news) and the device overheating to the point that it’s too hot to touch is not normal. I have been told borh by the reaeller and Apple Support that this device needs to be repaired. I suggest everyone who experience inreasonable overheating woth their iPhone 12 Pro return it to be repaired or replaced. This is surely a manufacturing error, something’s wrong with a batch of devices.

For me, they ran a entire diagnostic on my phone and checked my storage and also what apps/programs I use the most for any battery bugs. Didn’t help and they didn’t show anything. I undated iOS but I still have major heating issues. Im now just clearing out everything when it gets hot and waiting a few minutes to reuse the phone and it cools down. My 11pro was the best and had no issues. Dealt with this with the 5 but no problems since. This is pretty bad but they aren’t doing anything but saying report issues and go to store.

Just sent it back to Apple, 12 pro amd MagSafe.

In more than 10 years I was happy with my new phones, very upset I had to send it back, I can’t justify to pay $1600 for a phone in general and for this model in specific.

Anyways, anyone know where can I get new 11 pro 512gb?

Only places I see it, like bestbuy, it cost like brand new 12 pro so not sure what’s the deal. :(

Mine delivered a few days ago is overheating whilst recharging

Then you are saying your phone is displaying the Temperature Warning while charging? If that is the case, then you should take it to Apple for evaluation. If it is not, your phone is NOT overheating. It is doing what batteries do when being charged and that is get warm. Depending on whether you are fast charging or using a slow charge will also directly influence how warm it gets. If you use a 20W charger, it will get warmer. If you use 5W or 7.5W it will be less warm.

People on this thread are being scared about something which is normal. Especially with brand new phones. Over the first couple days, when a phone is set up from a backup, it takes hours to days to index all the data. That process causes heat as the battery and processor is working hard during that period.

I also see people saying they set up their phone and immediately start watching videos or playing graphic intensive games. This on top of the phone indexing the data will cause the battery to get very warm.

I just purchased my iPhone 12 pro max, set up done , iCloud done all done . It heats up at the right hand top side of the phone ‘s back side .

very unusual heating . If camera is on then it heats up more . I just scheduled a calm with apple care , if this is really an issue with iPhone 12 , they fix it ASAP through software update or give me a good phone . If this issue is like the Canon r5 heating which is a failure then . IPhone should take back and give me a new phone .

Hi, I visited this forum for the exact same reason as the problem posted a couple of days ago because my iPhone 12 was overheating and the battery was draining at the same speed as my iPhone 8 which was 2 years old. Turns out it was due to the new phone not being updated to the latest iOS version, my phone was brand new and I assumed it would automatically have the latest operating system installed, it didn't. Update your phone to the latest iOS as it fixes some major battery issues and also go to mobile data setting and (if you don't need it) switch off the option for you phone to search for 5G. Even without a 5G contract the phone will still search for 5G internet and this drains the battery an insane amount. Since updating my phone and switching off 5G my battery has been perfect, barely dropping even with heavy use. Hope this helps.

If its overheating denoted by the "iPhone must cool" message that is not at all normal and you should check which of your apps may be responsible.

I have a 12 Pro Max, and mine certainly does not "heat" to that degree.

Dimming the screen, by the way, is a normal screen saver feature that always happens if the phone is idle, regardless of temperature; make sure you have auto dimming shut off in your preferences if you don't want it to happen.

I’m not getting the “temperature” warning message, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I did. I have the auto-brightness turned on, but that’s not the issue. It’s not turning down the brightness due to changes in ambient lighting, the phone is limiting the maximum brightness when it’s hot, and I’m unable to increase the brightness past this limit. And this happens within a minute. Yes, it’s on the dashboard, in the sun, but my 11 pro Max didn’t have this issue. I can cool the phone by holding it up to the car AC and the brightness limit will increase, but then within a minute or two, we’re back to limited brightness and a hot phone.

I think Apple will do something about it soon! This is a hazard and might cause Apple a huge loss if they ignored it or if someone is hurt or property is damaged ! Hope someone from Apple is reading these reviews and act quickly to resolve the issue !

iphone pro max is overheating from normal usage and THIS IS SERIOUS ! Booking an appointment with a genius bar is torture and we r in the mid of pandemic so the solution should be easier DOT

They have; that is why the temperature sensors shut down the phone if it actually gets too hot.

I am having the same issue while setting up the phone, I did a full restore from my older iPhone with iTunes. While setting up my iPhone 12 pro max, I was turning on both of my phone at the same time, but my 12 pro max started heating up so quickly and my old phone had totally cool on touch. I am wondering is this another battery flaws from Apple?

Apple iphone 12 Pro Max - i also transferred my my information from one iphone to another and it did get hot. i also brushed it off. i feel like my battery life doesn't last any longer then my Iphone 11. When i charge my phone , use faceTime or use my phone for long periods of time it over heats. The heat comes near the camera area and on the side where the volume buttons are. I recently did a reset all settings in hopes it resolves the issue. I charged my phone and the over heating was not as drastic. I have not had a chance to test on facetime or while using the phone for an extended period of time. I do not have a screen protector or a case on the phone.
