My very old HP all-in-one is not working well. I would appreciate a recommendation for an all-in-one inkjet printer that works well with an iMac (purchased 2016) using version 10.15.7. I have friends that have had problems using with new wireless printers with their iMacs. Thank you.

Any recommendation would be an opinion, and might not fit with your budget, or printer usage requirements. For instance, photos, or text printing might make a difference. Your "Best" term implies that we are a printer evaluation site, and that is out of scope for these support communities.
The first thing I suggest to new printer purchasers is to see if the model is supported in Apple's AirPrint support built into the operating system. If the device is AirPrint supported (it may even state that fact in its advertising), then you are not dependent on the printer vendor for future driver support. The second consideration is toner replacement cost, and how much is provided with the printer in the box.
We still print quite a few photos and I’ve always been keen on Epson inkjet printers. I recycled our older Epson model with smaller cartridges 2 years ago and replaced it with an Epson Eco-Tank model. In less than one year, the savings in ink cartridges alone has more has paid for the Epson Eco-Tank printer.
You're welcome. Yea' our 2005 CX4200 was still working fine into late 2018. So far the Eco-Tank has been great, plus we can print wirelessly from any Mac, iPad or iPhone in the house without having to go into the office and print from the Mac that it was connected to.
We get this question all the time, there is no such thing as Best in any computer, scanner etc.. Buy one that suits your needs, the good news is you have scores of printers to choose from and you need to make your own decisions.

I have an older Samsung ML-2955ND laser that is not listed in Apple's Airprint as a supported device, but it is working with AirPrint anyway on Mojave and Catalina. Toner replenishment, Inkjet or laser, can be as much as 60% of the printer cost, so pay attention to that and the volume of printing planned.
