how do I get my row of special message choices..... like "the kite" to send special greetings. I have always had it and all of a sudden it is gone. I have turned of the phone... gone to settings...pushed every button and it still does not return.

No, however I am assuming that you are talking about the options available near the text typing box (Left side) in the Messages app. I may be completely off, and if you find that I am, then please provide more details so I am i the right ballpark.
Are you talking about the additional options while composing and sending text messages in the Messages app? See what is highlighted with RED border above.
The composing option for texting in the Messages app can be activated (or deactivated) by tapping on the App Store app icon to the left of the text composing box as shown in RED highlight above.
