This is still a problem in 14.0.1 on my iPhone 12. Wiped phone , restored and data won’t go away. I think it’s log files, and leftover installation files that aren’t being cleaned up by iOS. BUG!
Apple developers need to address this issue. Being a software developer for 40 years I know this should be easy thing to fix. Fix these issues before you keep adding bells and whistles. The integrity of the system is most important.
Clear Other storage on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
iOS has mechanisms in place to automatically clear caches and "other" storage files when disk space is almost full.
specially tried yesterday, itunes sync decreased "other size from ~1.5 Gb to ~300 Mb
I hate to inform you but that mechanism is broken. I have had the problem on an iPad and an iPhone.
I also have others with no problem. IOS has a bug that needs to be addressed. Or IOS needs a tool so we can see what is taking the space.
i'd start with 1st option - share iPhone and watch analytics, i believe "iCloud..." is not related to local storage (but not sure), "share with app devs" should (again, not sure) allow sending already shared by "share iPhone and watch analytics" app-specific analytics with it's developers
I tried that and did the synch in iTunes which I have tried previously. I still have 4gb of other data as before.
I really believe it’s a newly introduced bug when they tried to fix something else. It’s very common to cause new bugs when fixing others.
Won’t work for me. It’s always worked on my other devices. I guess I will wait for an update and eventually it will get removed.
do you have sharing diag information enabled? (it's in Settings -> Privacy -> Diagnostics & Usage->Automatically Send)
when enabled, it deletes diag info after sending to apple, you can check "other" than and disable sharing.
another option is to connect phone to itunes and sync, it also send diag info and clears some space

try General -> Privacy -> Analytics & Improvements -> Share iPhone ...
I found “share iPhone and watch analytics” , “share iCloud analytics” and “share with app developers”
Turn all of those on?
