The iPhone 12 pro is not compatible with iTunes 12.9 and I am no longer unable to back up my iPhone through iTunes.
Is there any way to back up my phone without iTunes or having to purchase storage on iCloud?

You can backup to iTunes by installing the latest version, 12.10, or can backup to iCloud. If you do not have sufficient room in iCloud, your only alternative is to purchase additional storage.
