Legacy Developer: JMicron blocked from loading

In Systems Preferences/Security & Privacy/Privacy there is a message "System software from developer "Legacy Developer: JMicron" was blocked from loading. Can anyone explain this to me. And who is JMicron and should this be allowed to be on my Mac.

Did you search the web for JMicron? They seem to write drive controller software or possibly card reader drivers. Maybe something with a card reader in it like a printer.

macOS allowed developers to create hacks into the kernel to support hardware that the OS didn't have any support. These kernel extensions were never created correctly and caused instability in the OS.

Starting with the next major OS release, Big Sur, these kernel extensions must be re-written to meet more stringent requirements.

If you have no intention of upgrading to Big Sur, you don't have to do anything.

If you do want to upgrade to Big Sur, then you need to figure out what software you have that installed a kernel extension written by JMicron. Find out if they will be updating the software or find an alternative if you need its functionality.
