The only known workarounds are
- Downgrade to 12.10.8 or
- Disable Passcode temporarily on iphone (plays havoc with wallet) or
- Update over the air on Wifi"
Disabling my passcode worked for me. I don't use Wallet, so not sure what problems it may cause.
I didn't try the other workarounds. FWIW, I use iTunes on a PC and was trying to update my iPhone 8 Plus from IOS 13.6 to 14.2.
