Keychain updating (But not updating!!!)

Hi Guys,

I'm hoping someone could help shine a light on an issue I'm having with Keychain on both IOS and MACOS.

Like many people I unfortunately in the past have been stupid enough to reuse the same password on many different sites! - However, thanks to Apple Keychain it's now much easier for me to use a Strong Auto-Generated password and not have to worry about remembering it!

However, the problem I am now having is that Keychain seems to say it is saving the new passwords I've updated but they still show the old passwords when I look at them in either MACOS (Via Safari > Preferences > Passwords) or IOS14 (Via Settings > Passwords).

If I visit the website and auto complete the Password for that site with Safari (be it on Mac or iPhone) it logs me in with what looks like the new password (Noticeable by the length of characters) - But as above if I try to view the new password it's still my old one.

It's very confusing and I have no idea why or how it's happening.

A few sites I need to log back into via either an APP or another computer which won't let me use the keychain aspect / auto fill won't let me log in as I can't see the new password!!!!

I've tried restarting my Mac and Phone and also left it a few days incase it takes a while to Sync over iCloud.

Does anyone know if / what I might be doing wrong as I am wanting to update a lot of previous passwords which I have used multiple times!

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks

Avoid deleting the passwords from keychain access , keychain access is a sensitive application you can corrupt the complete keychain application of Mac .

Thanks for the links 👍

I've just spent the last hour on the phone to Apple Support and they managed to share my screen so I could show them what's happening.

I didn't know about the actual Keychain Access application until they asked me to open it - they are as baffled as I am about what's happening as they noted that when I go to log onto a website it brings up more than 1 saved password for that site (different in character length) - Yet in Safari > Passwords and also in the keychain Application there is only 1 showing for that site which is my old one. (This was also the case on about 20+ other websites).

When I try to manually log in using the old password it says it's wrong - Yet if I use 1 of the 3 suggested it lets me log in but I'm not able to see the correct password anywhere.

I've been told that unfortunately the only solution is to completely reset the Keychain and start again from scratch, which is frustrating but if it's the only solution I'll have to bite the bullet and start again. 🙁 Just means I'll have to make a note of over 300+ sites / details and reset them all again.

You can delete each password in keychain access , open keychain access click on icloud in password section , select each mail address for the website and click on show password , right click on it and delete it .

Also suggested by the apple support , you can do a mistake deleting there are more than 300 websites passwords , by mistake you delete the important file the keychain will be corrupted ,

If you are expert or touch in with apple support senior care advisors delete each unwanted password in keychain access ( they can view the screen and guide you to delete which password ) , don't do it by your own .
