LCD di backlight turns off after few minutes.

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my mid late 2009 iMac 27-inch.

When I power on the computer, the display backlight works properly but after few minutes the backlight turns off. However if I point a flashlight near the LCD the display is still booted up.

Do you have any suggestions for solving the problem?

Thank you!

iMac, macOS 10.12

Sounds like serious hardware issue (backlight inverter board, cable or display) and sadly, it's going to cost 4 or 5 time more to repair than it is worth.

My suggestion it to backup to an external hard drive using Time Machine or CarbonCopyCloner and replace it with a new or at least a newer Mac.
