Poor Phone Reception on Iphone 12 Pro

I have just switched to an Iphone 12 Pro. I now have very poor reception and am unable to make calls from the same spots within our house, that I could with our previous phone (Android). I would be able to make calls from anywhere within our house and have good reception (3 to 4 bars). Since switching to the Iphone 12 Pro....I'm lucky to get 2 bars (with 1 bar being the normal). I now need to walk outside everytime I need to make a call. Just wanted to see if others are experiencing similar issues?

I have had issues with my iPhone 12 Pro Max from day one and blamed the call dropouts on the 3 Network i was on. They sent me a new sim card which made no difference. I could be speaking to someone and be stationary say at my desk and for no reason the other person cannot hear me but i can hear every word they say crisp as anything. I move into another room and sometimes that helps although the call is on wifi so should of helped anyway. Sometimes calls received go straight to voicemail so i miss them totally as the phone doesn't even ring. The callers are not blocked. I changed to EE and experienced exactly the same issues from inserting a brand new sim so i know its the phone and not the network provider. We have 2 iPhone X in our family as well and they experience no issues what so ever. Spoke with Apple today and they agreed to send me a replacement phone but i had to lay out £1199 before they would post it out. Yes i know they charge this as a guarantee to get the phone back but having applecare plus as well you would think they would send another one out next day courier and collect the defective one at the same time but no. What really annoys me is that we are the guinea pigs for these big companies who cant get their products right before selling them to us.

I would strongly urge everyone experiencing issues to do the inconvenient thing and reach out to Apple support. This needs to be a well-coordinated team effort, if we are to get a resolution in a timely manner... We can't allow this to be perceived as a few isolated cases from Apple's perspective... It seems rather widespread. However, I'm not convinced we have enough vocal folks demanding a timely resolution.

Well Apple are sending me a replacement phone so although they say it will be new i am thinking it will be a refurbished unit.

I will update you on that one as i can tell by the codes in "model number" when you go into settings - about as it should start with a letter M if its new from Apple, See the codes below if you aren't familiar with them.

The first letter of the model will tell you if the iPhone is new, a replacement,

refurbished, or personalized

M – it means your iPhone is a new device, which

was purchased from Apple Store Online or

Apple Retail Store.

F – it means your iPhone is a refurbished

device.

N – it means your iPhone is a

replacement device, which means that it was replaced by Apple or Apple

Authorized Service Center due to a problem. Replacement iPhones are usually

refurbished

P – it means your iPhone is a personalized

device, which means that the device has a personalized engraving.

Whether or not the replacement phone will cure my issues with calls remains to be seen so will update this next week once received

Personally i believe the iPhone 12 models have issues with the aerial antennas as thats the only thing that gives you signal and calls although Apple deny any issues

I wish I had read this thread prior to upgrading to an iPhone 12 Pro. Compared to my 7 this phone is terrible. Battery drains quickly and signal is frequently lost in places where my previous handset still connected. Used my previous phone to track footpaths on long walks whilst listening to music. Due to the pathetic signal I now can’t do either. I am with the same network so it is definitely the 12 pro at fault. I want my money back!

My reception is absolute garbage with the 12 Pro Max compared to my galaxy s12.

Same carrier - Verizon

It’s the worst inside my house - multiple dropped calls whether I’m FaceTime audio or cell signal. Wi-fi calling is **** too.

This phone is the worst “upgrade” ever...if I didn’t need FaceTime to talk to my daughter, I’d throw this POS out the window on the freeway.

From experience I’ve found the normal iPhones have better signal reception than the pro models yet the phones are practically identical apart from the camera setup AND the steel edge! My thinking is the steel edge prevents some signal getting to the antennas whereas with the aluminium sides the signal passes through......obviously this is my opinion and I don’t actually know it just seems from trying a few pro models and keep sending the back to having an iPhone 11 (current phone) the normal iPhone has no signal problems which is a shame as I really want that iPhone 12 Pro Max due the amazing screen size but I don’t want to have to go through the rigmarole of sending units back again due to naff signal, shame they don’t do a 12 Max non pro version with a 6.7” screen and the aluminium band as I’d of bought that in a heartbeat

I feel for you I really do, I had 3 iPhone 11 Pro Max phones and returned them all I then had I Huawei P30 Pro for a few months but really missed IPhone so I decided to try the non Pro 11 and the signal was fine and not far off as good as the Huawei which is how I came to the assumption maybe the steel band blocked some signal whereas aluminium doesn’t block, I’d def recommend the non Pro 11 but have no confidence in the pro models unless someone actually shows me their handset on the same

network as me and actually have a decent signal

I have a few simple questions.... You are with the same carrier on one phone and get adequate reception (3 bars out of 4) . So you now take that sim out of this phone and put use that on an Iphone 12 Pro. You then stand in place the 12 Pro in the same place as the older phone. Why is it then at no point does the 12 Pro get more than 1 bar (out of 4)? If it is the carrier's signal, why do they need to adjust it for the 12 Pro? Others replying to this thread are stating a drop in quality of reception when they went from an 11 Pro to a 12 Pro.

I am experiencing the same thing on my iPhone 12 Mini in Hong Kong. The same sim card gets 4 bars in my Samsung Android phone, but on the iPhone, it starts out at 4 and gradually loses bars until it is 1-2 bars. However if I enable and disable Airplane mode / restart the phone / remove and reinsert the sim I get four bars, and then it gradually decreases to 1-2. Yesterday while outside it completely lost reception. Is anybody also experiencing this on the iPhone 12 Mini or non-pro version?

I hope it's just a software issue and Apple is able to put out a patched iOS asap!

Same problem here.

iPhone 12 Pro Max bought as a gift for my birthday, it drops out during calls (as in the call still connected, yet the person you’re speaking with drops out for 10-20 seconds) and I am unable to get service greater than 3g.

I have called Apple Support and also had the phone tested at a Genius Bar appointment, I was told it could be my service provider. Since, I met with service provider, 5g is active on my account, they also replaced the SIM to be completely sure and they have no issues on their end.

I am currently Hot Spotting from my daughters phone (she has my previous iPhone 11 Pro Max) and I have no signal issues whatsoever. Internet, socials, email etc work perfectly.

APPLE, please fix this immediately and admit the issue. The Apple stores must be inundated with Genius Bar appointments about this.

On a side note, I also asked for a screen performance test to be done and it reported no issues. However, continually, if I need to close a window via tapping on the top left corner of the screen, it is unresponsive. Often requiring me to force close the App or window I am using.

See photo of me currently Hot Spotting to use my phone.
