Notifications mysteriously disappear after unplugging phone?

Hello, I hope someone can help me. My husband has an iPhone 7 using iOS 13.7. One day this week while his phone was sitting on the counter (all morning) the notifications (phone screen locked) showed a text message, missed call, and several emails received.

We left to go out and he handed me his phone to put in my purse for our trip. All of the notifications mysteriously were gone! He says all he did was unplug his phone to give it to me (the phone was fully charged).

I thought the only way notifications could disappear from a locked screen were if 1) you unlocked your phone; 2) you swiped on the notification to open or delete it, or ; 3) the notification was temporary. Currently his messages and emails are set to a temporary banner, but his phone is set to show a persistent banner.

Hello FaithfulRyder,

It sounds as though you're no longer seeing Notifications on the lock screen after having unlocked the iPhone. While those notification may no longer show on the lock screen, they may still be in the Notification Center. Have you following the steps int he section titled 'Open from Notification Center' to see if the notifications appear there?

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If not, take a look into Notification Center. If the notifications don't appear, and you've verified all the notification settings for those apps and features it's recommended to update to the latest iOS as that an provide fixes and security improvements to your device.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Hello FaithfulRyder,

Knowing that the notifications are showing in the Notifications Center greatly helps with troubleshooting. Do you notice any other actions on the iPhone such as maybe the device having failed unlock attempts, or noticed if those notifications may have been tapped on, but not viewed from the lock screen? If your device is running the latest iOS, you've verified the notifications aren't being acknowledged, it's recommended to reach out to Apple through the Get Support website.

Before reaching out you can attempt to restart the device to see if that helps resolve the issue. You can find the steps for restarting in the following article.

Restart your iPhone

Have a great day!

Hello Sterling r, thank you very much for your thoughtful reply. My issue is notifications disappearing from the locked screen, even before the phone is unlocked for use.

The notifications do show up in the Notification Center if I check there after unlocking the phone, but it’s a mystery as to why they would suddenly disappear on a locked screen.
