Wireless CarPlay (having been used) prevents AppleWatch from ringing

After a long exhausting period of try and error with lots of configurations it became clear:

The error occurs when the iPhone has been used with Wireless CarPlay (in my case in a 2020 BMW i3). After having been used in the car incoming calls afterwards are only ringing on the iPhone but no longer on the Apple Watch. Only switching off and on makes the iPhone forget the Wireless CarPlay. This problem started with iOS 14/watchOS 7.

Apple should get to know this soon and starting to fix it.

After having updates to iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2 it seems to me that the problem has gone...

I am having exactly same issue. I originally had iPhone Xs and Watch Series 3. After latest updates, it stopped working.

I upgraded to Iphone 12 Pro and Watch Series 6 and the problem persists.

I noticed that disabling bluetooth and enabling bluetooth fixes the problem, but you need to do it after BMW ride.

I am driving 2017 BMW 5 (G31)

I am soon upgrading to BMX X5 (G05) and let's see if that has same issue.

It's odd... yesterday I deleted my phone from the car then from my iphone. I repaired my phone to my car then drove around... listened to music, took a couple of phone calls, podcast... gave the carplay a workout. Came back home and went inside. Called my phone and my watch rang! Woo Hoo!!

Went back to my car ran an errand and listened to music on carplay. When I got back home, I called my iphone again and my watch did NOT ring.

Makes me wonder if the problem isn't necessarily when you disconnect from the carplay, but more so when carplay is started/ended with a phone that was already paired with the car.

I have the same problem, apple support asked me to update bmw software and see if that corrects the problem . hope to do that soon

I have the exact same problem. I have a BMW too, 2018 X5. I called Apple yesterday and the guy said he was going to create a ticket for the developer team.

I have tried all sorts of different configurations as well. After phone disconnects, I've tried turning off and back on bluetooth, airplane mode, wifi, location services, etc.... nothing seems to work except restarting the phone

Good to know! I've got a ticket too, but I'm not sure whether the guy did understand the problem and the relations correctly. Would be interesting to know whether owners of other brands do have the same issue with wireless CarPlay.

Good luck. I would not hold my breath until BMW fixes it. This thing has been working over three years without problems and now after Apple's latest OS upgrades it got broken. I guess it is Apple who need to fix it.

Oh no, after it worked for some calls, the Apple Watch is silent again... Updating wasn't the solution at all!

Just had another phonecall with Apple Support. He needed the VIN of the car and after he entered it in his form it seemed that the problem is already been known by the Developer Team. He offered another call next week to report the results of his action. --- We'll wait and see.
