iPhone XS front ear speaker not working in a call unless it is put in speaker then I can hear them

iPhone XS front ear speaker not working in a call unless it is put in speaker then I can hear them. I have tried a basic reset (turn on and off) volume headphone connections off is there anything else you would be able to recommend before having to do a complete factory reset.
