Can't Add Windows 10
I'm trying to add Windows 10 to my brand new mac using Boot Camp. All I get is an error: you can only use 64bit version. I am using the 64bit version. So how do I make this happen?

Yes. You can move it to your Desktop. BC Assistant has issues with ISOs in the Downloads folder.
Okay, so if I open Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal, I drag something and drop it in there. I found the Terminal--how do I find the thing to drop in? Is it the file that's erroneously in my downloads? PS--can I cut and paste it in instead?
In macOS Finder, you will select the .iso file, and paste the name of the file, after you have already typed openssl md5.
I'm afraid I don't know what a checksum mechanism is, so that part didn't help me. Sorry.
The goal is to verify if the downloaded file was corrupted during the download process or not. BCA will not work properly, if the file is corrupted. This can result in the error message you see.
What is the name and MD5sum of the W10 ISO file? Did you get the ISO from the Microsoft Download page?
MD5sum is a checksum mechanism to verify the integrity of a file. A file will yield the same checksum if it is identical to another.
Your ISO should not be in the Downloads folder. Partial ISO downloads can be problematic. If the ISO files has a .download file name extension at the end of it, it is incomplete.
You are dragging the reference to the ISO file (the name and location of the file) to a Terminal Window. Terminal is located under Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.
Been busy, but I did want to send a final reply.
That advice about moving the file to the desktop was all I needed; Windows loaded fine after that. Who would've thought a download in the downloads would cause so much trouble? Isn't it always the simplest solution that works? And the guy at Apple wanted me to re-install the whole OS.
Anyway, thanks for your time and expertise.
Okay, tried typing in just the last string of characters (entering your entire message produced no results), and got a screen I didn't understand with multiple strings of random-seeming characters in the upper left vane. I clicked on MDSsum in the lower left vane and got a definition of same, but that's all. And I can't figure out how to get back to the upper left vane; there is no back arrow, and when I close the window to start over, opening the search window just brings up the definition again.
You only need
openssl md5 Win10_20H2_English_x64.iso
The second line is the output. You must be in the directory where the ISO is located.
The other option is to use Finder to locate the ISO image, drag it's name to the Terminal,
openssl md5 <DragTheFinderFileNameHere>
I'm sorry, I am utterly lost. What exactly am I supposed to be doing? I'm trying to get a MD5sum. What is it? A string of characters? A file? When you say "get it," does that mean find it? Or read it? Or copy and paste it somewhere?
I can use the Finder to locate the ISO image, but I already know where it is: in my downloads file. I can see it when I open the Downloads. So, I'm supposed to drag it to the Terminal? What is the Terminal? I've never heard of that in relation to a computer.
Can I just search for it? Is it a file?
Sorry, again, but this is all new territory for me. You're using words I don't understand. Can you dumb it down a little? Or a lot?
If not, thanks for trying.
I don't know what a MD5sum is. I did go directly to the Microsoft download page. The name of the file is Win10_20H2_English_x64.iso
You can obtain the MD5sum from the Terminal, using
openssl md5 Win10_20H2_English_x64.iso
MD5(Win10_20H2_English_x64.iso)= e80f6ce987b2bba288469e7379129e12
I'm sorry, I don't understand those instructions. Am I supposed to type that string of characters somewhere? In the search option maybe?
Excellent!
When I downloaded the file it went to my download folder. Was I supposed to tell it to go elsewhere? Can I move it to...wherever it goes? BTW, it does not have a .download extension, it has .iso. So does that mean it's complete?
