Virus from chrome app?

Hello I have a iPhone XS Max running on iOS 14

was recently on my chrome app and went on a sketchy website after a few redirects and promptly closing the tabs and a few pop up adds. My phone while still in google chrome suddenly went to a black screen then a white spinning wheel appeared (see attached photo) after a second or a couple seconds my lock Screen appeared and I promptly entered my passcode and deleted the google chrome app with all of its data as well. Could my phone have a virus ? I erased all content and settings and I am currently restoring from a back up from 4 months ago. Should mention some of my info is uploaded to the iCloud like my photos, mail, and notes. If I did have a virus could it catch a ride on my files being uploaded to the cloud ? I know iOS has a sandbox to prevent the spread of a virus to a single app but yeah yenno can y’all pros/ more informed tech savvy peeps help me out ? Has anyone encountered such a male ware before? Oh and my phone is not jailbroken. Should I change my passwords, wifi password and other such things just to cover my bases?

iOS / iPadOS devices cannot be hacked or infected with Virus / Malware / Spyware if it is updated to latest iOS/iPadOS, unless you have intentionally downloaded spurious softwares or unauthorized apps directly from the internet and installed on your device or/and have Jail Broken.

It (Hacking) also depends on how careful are you in sharing sensitive and valuable information pertaining to your iPhone such as Passcode, Password etc with your friends and family members.

Be careful when sharing the device's sensitive and valuable information with friends and family members.

Thumb Rules:

  1. Enable  Guided Access before handing over an iPhone to kids
  2. Don't share Apple IDs
  3. Don't Jail Break
  4. Don't share sensitive information pertaining to your device and payment methods
  5. Beware of Phishing

SravanKrA, your answer barely had anything to do with the question. How do you have so many points with so many wrong answers? You think an iphone app cant be compromised? The actual issue, unrelated to your answers, is fairly common among iphone / chrome app users. The app will store re-direct code, and other malicious items causing your web browsing experience to blow.

Your rules of thumb are invaluable and should be adhered to. The world can be a dark place and technology is ever changing.. it is a rare bird indeed but finger pointing at the User is not always the answer. The first place to start, yes. The last place to look no.

Security is an endless race - one that you can lead but never decisively win. Yesterday's best defenses cannot fend off the attacks of today or tomorrow.”

Craig Federighi

You are correct in that we as user’s must be careful and aware. Use all security protections available to us.

It is important that volunteers encourage newer users to be responsible for our own devices, passcodes and passwords. The utilize all security precautions offered us, to keep track of all above information. To be vigilant of “attackers”” attempting to find vulnerabilities or trusting others with our devices . Being set in your ways and not flexing with the times can all so be dangerous behavior. It’s important to be open to , no matter how slim the possibilities in order to be truly effective in offering User to User technical assistance....in my humble opinion.

this is not to encourage anyone to worry. Apple is the most secure experience there is. It’s always a “highly unlikely “scenario.
