3G on iPhone 12

I have just bought the iPhone 12 in the UK and and am very annoyed that there seems no way to switch the phone to use 3G data networks. 5g is limited here, 4g is very unreliable and when supposedly connected to 4g i often don’t get a data connection. I would like the option to use 3g if I want as otherwise my very expensive new phone is completely useless..! We have vast parts of the country where only 3G is available and the phone won’t contact to the network. How have apple completely overlooked this issue? Can Apple please fix this in the next software update? I can’t be the only person with this issue - I make me want to revert to my iPhone X...!!

Apple should updates its software to able the 3G selection. It is something so simple. small thing but big difference for user which are in country-side. Please do it asap

Since you apparently didn’t bother to read any of the thread you posted to, I will again point out the flaw in your idea that has been suggested many times in the thread. But I will make it really clear: APPLE DOES NOT CONTROL ANYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH CELLULAR SETTINGS. THE SWITCHES AVAILABLE TO SELECT CELLULAR OPTIONS ARE PLACED ON THE PHONE BY THE CARRIER. NOT BY APPLE. The cellular settings file INSTALLED BY THE CARRIER, NOT BY APPLE, defines the switches that are available.

So if you want a 3G switch contact your carrier; Apple has nothing to do with it. As carriers are in the process of shutting down their 3G networks it’s unlikely they will want to encourage anyone to use 3G, but you can always ask.

That is a useless and unhelpful answer. I have a 3G/4g/5g SIM. It is exactly the same SIM I had before I bought the iPhone 12 and it worked on 3g just fine. This is a software issue, not a SIM of hardware issue. There isn’t an option to use 3g at all in iOS 14.1 on iPhone 12. That is the issue. There are a number of similar threads on other forums. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-12-pro-and-3g.2262908/

Your carrier provides the carrier settings in the phone. Apple has nothing to do with them. If your carrier choses not to let the iPhone use 3G, there's nothing Apple can do.

Talk to your carrier.

Please can you point out where I am being judgemental?

I have added all the screen shots for you. I have also added the spec of both models for you to look at at and they both have the same connectivity spec.

this means that they both can.

could your phone not be in range for 3G?

I have no idea what an AASP is but good if you have one but could you remove your sarcasm from the conversation that would be great.

I am just trying to help you

If your carrier is not offering 3G as an option in your area there is nothing that Apple can do about it. As POLEKING posted the iPhone 12's all have a radio that supports 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, etc. but which bands you are allowed to use with your cell service provider is determined by them, not Apple. As Idris already said your carrier has a file on your iPhone that determines the settings with their network, if they wish to include a 3G option in that file, whether explicitly where you can select it or as a fallback, is totally up to them. So go ahead and return your iPhone if you wish but it already can use 3G and you can wait until the cows come home.

If you are using a Verizon phone, or an MVNO that uses Verizon, they use CDMA EVDO as their 3G. That is also going away in the near future. Same thing for the cell provider formerly known as Sprint.

Please stop implying that the people who are experiencing this issue do not know what they are talking about. My iPhone 12 Pro will NOT connect to 3G. Right now it is sitting, without a signal next to my XR which DOES connect to 3G - 4 bars.

Both Apple and Verizon have acknowledged this issue, and you continuing to tell us that we are not experiencing this issue is not helpful at best, and condescending at worst.

I see you posted the image of the screen above, thanks for that. It is baffling that your phone connects to 3G and mine and others do not. @POLEKING what carrier are you using?

Thanks
