Significant battery drain when using USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adaptor - is this normal ?

So, I have had several iPads all with the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. When I watch downloaded films/tv with headphones my battery drains about 10% per hour.

I've just bought an iPad Air 4 and am using an Apple USB-C to 3.5mm adaptor to connect my headphones.

My battery now drains 20-25% per hour of downloaded film/tv.

Is this normal and to be expected ?

Help much appreciated.
