How to remove volume encrypted by FileValult

Hello,

I got an APFS encrypted volume on my mac, created for another user I got no access any more. When I try to remove this volume using Disc Utility, I get asked to login using apple id I don't own.

Is there any way to remove such a volume?

How to remove encryption of HFS+ External Volume I've got an external HFS+ formatted drive that I encrypted some time ago, but want to make it a network attached device, which requires that it not be encrypted. And I want to preserve its contents. Under previous versions of the Macintosh operating system, simply cntl-clicking on the drive icon revealed a Decrypt contextual menu item. That seems to be gone. Moreover, I can't find anything in the man pages for the diskutil (Terminal) command that would decrypt HFS+ (only APFS). Does anyone have a suggestion how I might proceed?

What is the most secure way to erase an APFS encrypted external hard drive? So I am returning a faulty but still functioning hard drive to Amazon and would like opinions on the most secure way to erase the drive before returning it, to eliminate the possibility of data recovery. I'm thinking I could Click "Erase" and then reformat as APFS encrypted. It would seems that an Amazon employee could not then access the drive's contents -- is that correct? What about when the drive arrives back at the manufacturer's facility? I had previously formatted the drive as APFS encrypted using Disk Utility on my M1 Macbook Pro. I should mention that, just prior to doing that, I had used it as an unencrypted drive that stored many sensitive files. To summarize, does my plan sound bullet-proof, and if not, might you have a better idea? (Keeping the drive and using it as a paperweight is not an option, because I've done this with many bad drives and I can't keep wasting all that money.) Thank you!

Apparently, what is impossible through GUI, is doable through cli

Deleted volume with discutil apfs removeVolume <volumeName>, and no questions about appleid
