I accidentally gave a backup to new iPhone 12 with an older iOS of iPhone XR and now iPhone 12 is not turning on.

So, my dad asked me if I could transfer all his data of his old iPhone XR through a backup he had made on his laptop to his new Iphone 12. I did so, but later on realized when the backup was given it was not updated to the iOS 14.1. The new iPhone 12, got the data from the old phone and now is not turning on. It is just turning on and off the apple logo. I'm trying to restore it using my Macbook but it is taking too long since it is asking me for an update as well. Is there any other way I can restore his iPhone? With his laptop I already backed it up with the updated version of his old iPhone just in case. T

wanna say thanks to everyone who replied, it helped a lot. I already fixed it thanks a lot again.I was really anxious so I started thinking the iOS might’ve been it even tho I’ve already done this process before but without it not responding😅 so I started doubting everything. Anyways just in case anyone else has the same problem later on and stumbles through here. I contacted apple support and ima just say what they told me just in case (the iPhone was only showing black screen at this point you can skip steps to your current part)

  1. force restart the phone: press and quickly release up volume button, press and quickly release down volume button, press and hold side button until apple logo appears.
  2. Then, after the force restart just stayed in a constant reboot loop (dark, apple logo, dark, apple logo...) they told me to proceed to do the following to put it in recovery mode: (I was using a Lenovo laptop in my case but ik that for my MacBook it’s the finder) force close iTunes app, disconnect phone from laptop, wait around 1 minute, open iTunes app again, connect phone again, press and quickly release up volume button, press and quickly release down volume button, press and hold side button until the recovery screen appears.
  3. There will be a pop up message on the iTunes app and you will press the update only option.
  4. Now wait for it to finish (be patient it might take a while). Recommended to stay in a place with good internet connection.
  5. now After it is done it is supposed to be on the passcode screen. If not and still with the reboot loop do the following to restore the device to factory settings: repeat step 2 and in step 3 instead of pressing update press the restore option.
  6. Now wait til it’s done. Your iPhone by now is supposed to be showing on the screen the usual process bar.
  7. after it is done, it should be like if brand new and set it up again (yey!)
  8. if it didn’t work by then they told me I would need to bring or send it so they could have a look at it.

anyways, if you are really anxious like I was, totally recommend to get in contact with apple support. They will take you step by step through the whole process and you can continue the thread with the same person (I contacted via the app of apple support in my other phone) and they will continue to help you. Hope you all have a great thanksgiving, Christmas, new year, and that you and your families are well!!! Thanks!!
