How to get french book in iBook

Hello all,

I bought an iPad to my mother/father and they really like to read books. Before their was a useful link at the bottom of the Book store saying "French book" or something like that. Now it doesn't exist anymore.

Is there a new way to search for french book? Anyone here could help us search the store for a specific language?

I would greatly appreciate any help on this question.

Thank you.

PC, Windows Vista, iPad, iBook

When I go to the iBooks store, there is a part of the first page that allows me to get books in a variety of languages, Spanish, French, German and even Chinese. Why this particular selection of languages, I have no idea (are there no books in Welsh?). Note that one must scroll down the page in order to see this panel, which is headed Quick Links. I have been unable to find any other way to search fo specific language publications, which, indeed, is a grave omission.

Apple has to negotiate rights to distribute ebooks via the ibookstore, and presumably they have some priorities for doing that regarding various languages. If they don't yet have what you want, try the Kindle or Nook apps. If nobody has what you want, you will just have to wait until someone thinks it is worth the effort to do the legal work needed.

Isn't something normal when we look at books in a Library?

Not in an American bookstore, which is essentially what you are doing. If you know the author and/or title, there are some french books there. Unfortunately, most of those +en vérsion originale+ are from Project Gutenberg and are poorly formatted. Currently it is optimized for English authors of popular books.

You can always find and download files manually.

You should send feedback to Apple pour les dire que l'anglais n'est pas la seule langue du monde.

On the other hand, you could look at this an an opportunity. Ever wanted to be a publisher?

No, the thing is that there are books in languages other than those listed, yet no way of searching by language is offered.

For example, the languages I am presented with are French, German, Spanish, and Chinese, with the page itself in English and the books presented there also in English. There seems to be no way that I can search for books written in Dutch, though there are plenty such books. If I search for "leeuw" then I am presented with "De Leeuw van Vlaanderen" by Hendrik Coscience, and it even lists the language as "Dutch, Flemish" (Conscience was a Dutch-speaking Belgian); together with this title, the "customers also bought" section suggests five other books written in Dutch (and going to any of these reveals more, of course). So I am able to find a book in Dutch (or any other language) if I know its title or author, but I am unable to find a list of books in a particular language.

The OP was quite correct. This is a shortcoming and it has nothing to do with distribution rights as is suggested.

Yes, I misunderstood your point, thanks for clarification. Do you also find that Dutch books which are not free ones are available? For the Gutenberg stuff I guess one would have to use the search page on their normal website to search by language.
