Well I finally figured out how to load the new firmware into my T3i. I downloaded it to my computer, plugged in my Promaster card reader to the laptop, installed a scan disk card into the card reader, and dragged the firmware onto my scan disk card. I installed the scan disk card into the camera and the camera loaded the new firmware when I selected the firmware option in the camera menu. When I connected the camera to the laptop the camera appeared on my list of items on my computer so I could load any new photos onto the laptop. it is simple once you are able to decipher the code.
You will need to Install the Canon software supplied with the camera for file transfer to work.
Hello Roscoe68,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
Based on what you mentioned, you seem to have an issue with your camera being recognized on your Mac. You may need tor install additional software if the camera had any available. You may also want to check on the manufacturer's documentation to find out how to connect your camera to the Mac. However, here is some information that may help: If nothing happens when you connect a camera to your Mac.
Best wishes!

Then you should be able to get Photos to access the camera and download selected photos. If you want them as separate files, Gary Scotland rightly suggests you need to install the canon software.
Are you using the provided Mini USB-B port?
the MacBookPro has no HDMI or VGA INPUTS, so connecting cables with HDMI or VGA gets you nowhere.
I would like to, but if the computer doesn't recognize my camera, how do I install new canon software in the camera. I have downloaded the canon software for my Mac OS to my Macbook pro but that doesn't seem to make any difference. This is a little frustrating.

Thanks for all who responded. It helped me see the errors I was making. I really do appreciate the suggestions. Stay safe and healthy.
