Garmin Express unable to update with USB-C port


I have installed Garmin Express and need to update my Nuvi's maps. The connection requires a regular. USB port which my new MacBook Pro no longer has. I am using an adapter which changes to the needed USB-C to a USB and it will not recognize the GPS. One explanation says not to use a hub, plug it in directly to your computer. That can not be done, there is no USB port. How can I update my maps?
