How do we mass update bad links to files in iTunes?
This is the same issue in a number of threads, yet to be resolved from the various ones I've read.
OS: Windows 10 20H2 (latest build as of this post)
iTunes: Version 12.10.10.2 (latest version of the iTunes app from Windows store as of this post)
Issue: The links to files in iTunes library and the iTunes library location change because of temporary unavailability of a iTunes library stored on a network attached storage (NAS). Upon restoring access to NAS and updating the location of the iTunes library, links to music and movie files, etc., remain linked to a location that doesn't exist and "file://localhost/C:/" is placed in front of all inaccessible files. See the screenshot below and don't make fun that it is Linda Ronstadt.
Is there any way to update the locations en masse? The locations all should begin with the static IP address assigned to the NAS on the local network, e.g., 10.0.0.5., and not file://localhost/ etc.
I'm already aware of these techniques. They don't deliver what I'm seeking.
- Locate some files and wait until iTunes offers to find other files based on that location. That only kinda-sorta works for music files and doesn't work for other types of media files at all. I have done this method in earlier instances of this same problem.
- Add all the files again to iTunes and remove duplicates.
- Copying an older version of the iTunes library to the iTunes library location to overwrite the one that has been modified, but that forces me to add newer files again.
I have both Macs and PCs in the house, so if there's a Mac-specific solution that works with a NAS configured on Windows, then I'm happy to use that.
Thanks to all in advance for the help.
