AirPods were working fine with iPad when I was watching either appleTv or CBS app. But now, they only connect through airplay and screen has constant message now playing through airplay. Google has not helped. Thanks

SOLUTION: Start the video BEFORE turning on your earbuds then while the video is playing, turn on your earbuds and the “Now Playing Through AirPlay” message will go away. Hope this helps.
Yep. This just started after the last update (to 14.2). I’m using an iPhone 7 and have the same issue with CBS, but for some reason Apple TV is okay on my device.

I have the same issue using Bose earbuds with the CBS app.
That did not work on my iPad.

AirPods only play through airplay and then screen says now playing through airplay instead of just bluetooth. Can't figure out what happened.
