downloading apps from Apple with new IOS 14
Used to be my fingerprint, now I'm asked to double click an icon in the corner of the screen. Problem.... it doesn't work. I must be doing something wrong. I cannot download an app now. Help please

You don't double-click the icon. You double-click the physical lock/unlock button on the edge of the device, adjacent to the icon.
