Ipod does not connect to iTunes

Ipod - Model= MC297LL, Version= 2.0.5 PC

Itunes - Windows 10, Version= 12.10.10.2

When I connect the Ipod to the PC, it does not seem to connect to iTunes.

However, various messages such as "Connected, Eject before disconnect", "OK to Disconnect" appear.

No icon appears on iTunes.

When I look at "Device Manager" - Universal Serial Bus Controllers, I sometimes see "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and then it disappears.

But sometimes it reappears and there is a yellow triangle to the left of "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver".

I have uninstalled and reinstalled all USB drivers, and uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. I even spent a few hours cleaning the Windows registry of all "iTunes", "Ipod", "Apple" references and then reinstalled iTunes and the Driver (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers --> right click on "usbaapl64.inf" and click "Install".

Any other suggestions welcome.

When in disk mode does the device appear in Windows Explorer?

See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - Apple Community. Scroll to the very bottom for recent versions. Try 12.10.9.3. If nothing changes try 12.10.8.5, and so on.

I have reported I tried what is suggested in that article - namely, update or reinstall USB driver software.

"I have uninstalled and reinstalled all USB drivers, and uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes."

And it did not work.

The process of explicitly selecting the driver you want used, even when Windows claims the correct driver is in place, has to be followed very closely. I wrote my user tip because I kept seeing users that were unsuccessful when using the official Apple advice.

Are you using the Windows Store version of iTunes or the traditional iTunes(64)Setup.exe? The steps I've given assume the latter. Do you have any third party anti-virus software? When reinstalling iTunes it may help to right-click the installer and use Run as administrator. If the current build of iTunes won't work for you then you may want to reinstall the last version that worked correctly for you. Will iTunes see your iPod classic if you put it in disk mode before connecting to your computer and launch iTunes after it is connected?

The latter - iTunes(64)Setup.exe

No

3) When reinstalling iTunes it may help to right-click the installer and use Run as administrator.

I am always logged in as an Windows Administrator. I install all software with an this account, and if "Run as Administrator" is also available I select that option.

4) If the current build of iTunes won't work for you then you may want to reinstall the last version that worked correctly for you.

I have not synch'd the Ipod since 2013. I have no idea what version of iTunes I had at that time.

5) Will iTunes see your iPod classic if you put it in disk mode before connecting to your computer and launch iTunes after it is connected?

No.

I also prematurely sent the last message....

I have not only not synch'd the Ipod since 2013, but I never synch'd it using this laptop. At that time I also had a desktop on which I had my music and iTunes.

So, I must first see if I get the yellow triangle against the USB driver using another laptop (keeping iTunes out of the mix). Since I have only 1 laptop, I am arranging time with a friend to try it on his.

No.

It should do, even if iTunes isn't installed. Try another cable. Check for fluff in the docking port. The device may detect a connection to a computer even when the computer isn't properly handshaking with the device.
