Activation lock

I recently purchased an iPhone SE on Facebook marketplace. It has an activation lock on it and the guy who sold it to me will not contact me back. I assume it was stolen but I searched the imeid and it’s not blacklisted. What can I do to either bypass the activation lock or find out who the phone belongs to and return it?? I’m at a loss here.

Nothing you can do without the cooperation of whoever it is currently activated to. Apple won't help you find out who that is (even if they could). If you cannot return it to FB for a refund, then recycle it.

You can't do anything with it, without the cooperation of the person who owns the apple ID it is registered to.

You need to return it to the seller - or if he will not respond, tell him you will be contacting police. If he still doesn't respond, do so. (You are at risk of receiving stolen property)

Does facebook marketplace offer any buyer protections like ebay does? If so, make use of them.
